Kate’s teaching focuses on the idea of training confidence and consistency, creating a strong technical and musical foundation, as well as an instinctual sense of professionalism to develop independent, capable musicians. By establishing the importance of effective communication, Kate believes in forming a symbiotic student-to-teacher relationship that will help students develop their individual strengths, setting them up for a career in which they will have the most success.

Since her undergraduate studies, Kate has maintained a private flute studio comprised of elementary through high school students. Many of these students have found success in musical endeavors, such as participation in the Tucson Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, successful auditions for Arizona Music Educators Association all-state ensembles, superior and excellent ratings in solo and ensemble, performances in concerto competitions, and scholarship awards from universities including Research I institutions.

Combined with experience teaching undergraduate and graduate students, conducting and producing a university flute choir, and teaching music education methods courses, as well as a background as an orchestral and chamber musician, this has led to the development of a well-rounded pedagogical approach suitable for students of all ages and experience levels.

Masterclasses with Kate focus on the development of performance through instruction of individuals using a wide range of the flute repertoire. Although only a small number of students perform, these classes are entertaining and educational for all who attend.

Kate has worked with groups of musicians of varying ages and skill levels, presenting clinics and coaching ensembles. Clinics can cover a variety of topics, ranging from basic music concepts and flute techniques to specific ensemble and audition pieces. With years of experience performing in chamber ensembles, Kate is also able to run rehearsals for woodwind- or flute-specific ensembles, emphasizing the development of individual and ensemble performance as well as rehearsal tactics.

Kate is currently teaching in Clermont, FL and is accepting students there and in surrounding areas. Those interested can request more information here.
